About: FVCOM & GLORYS SST/BT Analyses

This document reviews the temperature characteristics for regions along the Northeast shelf comparing timeseries for both FVCOM (1978-2016) and GLORYs ocean reanalysis model outputs from 1993-2023.

Temperature change is presented for 19 zones in the area, and presented with respect to key temperatures for lobster growth and survival.

Load FVCOM Timeseries

Load GLORYS Timeseries

Timeseries for the same regions have been processed in python, for both surface and bottom layers. That process can be found in Lobster-ECOL/py/GLORYS-prep/Regional_SurfBot_Temp_Processing.ipynb

Study Area & Focal Regions

For this project, we have divided the study area into the following regions. Within 12 nautical miles of the coast is our inshore area. This has been further divided by NMFS statistical areas to subdivide the coastal habitat. Beyond 12 nautical miles we have two broader offshore areas: Gulf of Maine + Georges Bank, and Southern New England. These offshore areas extend until hitting the 1500m depth contour of the shelf break.

Absolute Temperature Changes

The first comparisons between the two data sources is absolute temperature differences.
